Ceremony for Connecting to the Wisdom of Your Heart
We spend most of our time in our heads—thinking, analyzing, planning, processing. Our minds are essential for work and keeping our lives on track, but they do not provide the whole picture. Our hearts actually contain far more intelligence than our minds.
This is a very simple ceremony for connecting to your heart and tuning in to its intelligence.
Steps
Start by getting very comfortable. You can sit or lie down as you wish. Breathe deeply and ground your body. Feel the Earth supporting you. Play calming music, and light candles if you wish.
Begin by letting your mind know that you are going to give it a rest. Just say quietly, “Thank you, mind. I invite you to relax for a while and to be quiet.” Breathe deeply and un-focus.
Place your hand on your heart. Breathe in and feel your heart. Speak to your heart, silently. Ask your heart to speak to you. You can say, “Beautiful heart, I am listening to you. Tell me what you are feeling or desiring.” Keep listening and know that the heart does not always speak in words. The heart often speaks in feelings or in ways we cannot understand with our rational minds. Just trust that your heart will speak to you if you listen and stay quiet.
Continue to ask your heart questions, such as “Heart, what do I need right now?” When you have received your Heart’s wisdom, you can move on: “Heart, what do my loved ones need right now? What does my community need right now? What can I release?” Continue with any questions you seek answers to. If the mind wants to butt in and comment or interpret, gently remind it that it is time for the heart to speak.
When you have received all the wisdom from your heart, write it down. Don’t think too much about it; just let it flow. You may write only words or phrases or just sketch something. This is all okay; it doesn’t have to make rational sense. As you practice this ceremony, you will get better at understanding what your heart has to say.
This is a beautiful ceremony to practice regularly. The more you do it, the better you will become at turning off your mind and tuning in to your heart’s wisdom.
